It's an incredibly nice day for a November afternoon;
Current Temperature 11 C (52 F) Barometer 102 and dropping
Humidity 62% wind at 9 from the East
The sun is out and bright today. There are few leaves left on the trees now, after all the rain and wind we got last weekend. Apparently there's more of the same to follow for Wednesday. The transition to winter seems fairly prolonged this year and it's been an enjoyable happening - on the good days.
One thing that's enjoyable about putting a garden to bed for the season - there's always the new spring flowers and bulbs to look forward to!
I've been exploring my thoughts on trying to drum up a little extra money and maybe to get myself back into a more structured schedule. I've been struggling mentally with my various approaches and who I want to work for or why...
Or do I just go for something real basic in the fast food territory? And having been away from the fast food industry a good while I am quite surprised at how little some jobs pay for the amount of work put into them!
So I was trying to work up a clever letter to distribute to companies in my immediate vicinity...but I keep stumbling over trying to explain what I do and who I am, why I am where I'm at... And it hit me! Here I've been bemoaning things I want to do - when - I'm there already - I AM DOING IT RIGHT NOW! right in this point of power I am the writer and the gardener and the website designer, I am that and I AM being what I love being and this is a great place to be, right now, right here! And it is fabulous!
So while I'm looking for other work I'm still working at what I do and I love what I do - that's something I can present to a prospective employer... I needn't be hat in hand!
The ways of spirit aren't so mysterious - it's we humans that are the bizarre ones! How could I have forgeotten such a thing? Even when I was stirred to do some things it was in the garden or it was to play on the computer - it was to explore to learn something else, to see something different, to be inspired, to write or design or work in the garden or house some more...
I AM surrounded and engulfed by the enchanted life I'm living - it is a wonderful thing and often even I can loose sight of my path. And I can't seem to help myself - or rather stop myself from loving what it is I do! I play! I play with words, I suppose I can play with moods too. As a homemaker I "play house" as a gardener I "play garden" as a designer I "play" my designs into existence.
And believe it or not I need a lot of practice! How can that be? Well I'm an adult - playing doesn't come natural for me - I actually have to work at it a bit. In particular I have had to learn how to do that all summer! It was a challenge - some days it still is - sometimes that serious person side of me comes back to remember there's a bill to pay or a project that will require a few extra dollars to pull off nicely... and then back to play, and getting back to it can also be a struggle... there's a point where you just have to let go and let things flow and I'm not claiming any expert status there! Let go, let go... I still have to practice!
So I was inspired to drop this letter off in the neighborhood;
Dear "Neighborhood manufacuring facility" (or other appropriate address)
When you're looking for helpful employees to contribute their skills to your organization you may normally check with employment agencies. You may find help through employee referrals and newspaper advertisements. May I offer the opportunity to hire someone who lives within your neighbourhood?
May I offer my assistance in any of a number of areas; factory, janitorial, security, office, reception ?
I love what I do - freelance writing, website design through my home office, providing support to my ageing parents, renovating a 100 year old home and garden.
I am looking for a local neighbourhood employment opportunity that can supplement the low income my current activities provide. My financial requirements are modest and I am open to discussion of hours and remuneration.
You will find a resume included for your review.
If I can be of service, kindly contact me at your earliest convenience to explore this opportunity.
There are several companies in the area that I intend to approach, maybe, if they don't have a lot of requirements, I can work for more than one of them? Well heck - it's worth a try - and it's certainly a little more creative than your usual introduction. That may be a plus for me or not!
