Photographic Foray on a January Thaw
As promised yesterday;

Some photographs. Including a few landscapes I enhanced with various effects. The two duck shots aren't enhanced. Keisha and I sat patiently, waiting for just the right light and for the ducks to face in just the right direction.
A real trick for a Jack Russell who likes to hunt, she was as well rewarded for her patience as I was.
The sun helped when it peeked through the clouds and showed off the iridescent quality of the drakes' green head feathers. This photograph is so realistic, to me, the bird doesn't look real - it's almost surreal! I'm just not used to it yet! I've never had a camera that would let me pull off a shot like this and now I'm excited about the real potential! I will have to get the telephoto lens attachment to see what other fun I can have with my camera!

Laughing Duck
Often, just after sunrise, when walking the paths along one of the local rivers, I hear the ducks talking away to themselves. Sometimes their calls sound strangely similar to ol' Donald Duck's weird laugh. It puts a smile on my face when I hear them "laughing" as if they're greeting me with a jolly, "good morning!" It's good to know the ducks are having such a great time on the river - this fellow had quite a chuckle on!

Confused by the strangely warm weather the ducks are starting to pair up... Apparently they'll get a big surprise tomorrow when the temperature drops again and snow returns! But not before one more day of warm weather - could get to 10C (50C) and tomorrow we could have 2 or more inches of snow!

I didn't manage to see the Great Blue Herons on this trip. Instead, I took some landscape shots that turned out quite well, I think;

Gordon Street Bridge in Sepia
Sepia of Bridge on Gordon St., Royal City Park, Guelph

Sepia shots can give an interesting feel to a shot and emphasizes linear and shadow elements very well. This small size may not give it much justice. This one would look fabulous in a nice matte and frame!

A Scenic River View
This Scenic View Of The River Has It's Own Frame
I love the way this effect worked. The "frame" is part of the picture and NOT an effect. By enhancing the exposure I was able to really give a natualized feel to this shot. It seems warmer and I love how the wood grain stands out so nicely. I wasn't trying to capture the birds that showed up in the shot - they surprized me by inviting themselves - hams!

curving railway line with effects
Light Line
I like the way this turned out... I used an effect to enhance the streams of sunlight and warm the picture up a bit. The "shine" on the railway line was there, the sun reflecting nicely off the track and the linearity was just too intriguing; got me thinking... Hm-m-m, I wonder if I can capture that optical illusion? It worked!

Well that was a sampling of my photographic foray on this January thaw.
It seems our timing couldn't be better as winter weather is scheduled to return sometime Saturday!

Now I 'll try to get back to work on pages! Warning... the weather's still really nice again today - it may be a chore to keep me indoors!
