Hollyhock is a popular, "old fashioned" plant that is well suited for the back of large perennial beds. They are are described as biennials, taking two years to reach full maturity & begin flowering. When fully developed hollyhocks can exced 6 feet in height and planted in massive clumps can make an impressive statement. Because they seed themselves these delightful mid-summer flowers can be particularly nice combined with other old fashioned plants like peonies and shasta daisies giving the landscaping an english country garden or cottage garden feel.

Tornado update - after investigations and observations by Environment Canada it was determined two tornados were responsible for the damage in the area north (Fergus) and north east (Bellwood) of Guelph. While some people's lives have been greatly impacted by the damage there were no serious injuries or deaths as a result of the powerful storms. We can and are very thankful in our neck of the woods!
I spent the weekend doing dimensional tests of the various customizable sections here on the 'sayer network and can now better appreciate how image materials may appear once set into a page...Some people might have caught me doing it when checking my blog yesterday as the backgrounds all kept changing...Needless to say the trial and error should be over, well at least for now! I took "Printscreen" shots each time I tested another background area or entry area and have them on file. I wonder if it would be helpful information for other users...might be a topic to explore in future? I still have some cleaning up to do on some of my entries and in ensuring my artwork and photos are properly marked for copyright. I highly recommend anyone who is publishing original material, written or otherwise to be sure to copyright your work. It's worth the effort and may be a real benefit if your work becomes popular with others, including outside the 'sayer realm! This has been one of the most fun ways to refresh my memory on html programming and graphic design I have ever experienced! I am thrilled to be part of such an incredibly dynamic group of talented individuals and look forward to working up all sorts of interesting themes, templates and page layouts! I hope you've enjoyed todays new bloom and that you'll be tempted to return soon! Cheryl
