Garden re-construction gets underway!

Ah the garden! re-arrange, re-construct and re-plant, at least its begun!

Temperature 15C Humidity 72%

Barometer 102.1 and rising. A chilly north wind at 9 km/h

A Great Day in the garden - the air seems more clear after another good rain yesterday.

Washed up a batch of cucumbers, ready to make up some sweet relish to enjoy this winter!

The transformation of the garden is underway...  what vegetables are left are ripening and getting ready to go to seed. I am getting impatient to get moving the bigger pieces around - structures, really. But they'll have to wait a bit longer... in the meantime there's still little things I can prepare ahead of time.

The new mailbox is set up, the garden bench is cleaned and stained and I've re-started sanding the picnic table, getting it ready once again - it got too wet earlier and I didn't want to raise the grain too much, too prone to slivers later. I also started pulling a bunch of boards and stakes that hemmed in the old garden beds, piled them up along with some bricks from another border.

And the weather surprized me, it turned quite warm while I was working ,the beetles and crickets were singing loudly and bees were hovering around the hollyhocks..

There are flowers in the front that are now begining to open - chrysanthemums and vinca,. Others, like portullacca and allysum are still holding their own. The birch trees will soon take on a beautiful yellow glow and their trunks show the namesake "paperbark white"  for an interesting linear feature come winter giving the birds a good perch above their feeder.

This weekend we're off camping, canine companion Keisha included. Hope to do some paddling on the Nottawasaga River at Nicholston Dam, and that any effects from Ophellia are limited to not dampen the fun any. So I'll admit it now; this will not be a big work weekend but rather more a big "play" weekend and the garden will be waiting for us once we get back. Eager to continue it's brave new adventure!
