Way back in the summertime - (a distant memory today, here in the North East Quadrant) I decided to play some with the set up of my blog. I noticed lots of other people had blogs that were more customized and personal, I also noticed some very neat tricks people were doing with photographs and scanned images. I got inspired to start to play with the whole concept.
I've learned a lot since then and sometimes I find very unexpected things happening with different experiments I've tried. Since then I finally launched my own website and started trying to learn more about web design and that of course leads to having to learn much more about; html, xhtml, java and CSS... To me this is fun - I like learning new things and stretching my creative abilities... Some people think of it as "work"... to me it's play!
My experience at this fabulous MindSay community has been greatly enhanced by something as simple as letting me get my hands in the virtual cookie jar of design and for that I am thankful to the founders and everyone who contributes to this great space!
People here at MindSay work behind the scenes to make this experience more enjoyable and creatively satisfying and it never stops! Note the MindSay Pages section - where we can all play and co-create in the web design - THAT is unique and very kewl!
Okay; Now these images were created by scanning a marked up sheet of graph paper and uploading that scanned image into the various customizable sections; blog background, page background, plug in background, entry background. I was having trouble appreciating the relative spacial aspects (NOT special aspects!) of how the pages laid out AND for a little while I also had trouble figuring out which background was what! As most anyone here has likely learned if they've played with their pages at all, a lot is trial & error!
Trial and error has been successful for me but I like the fact that there are people here who have a good handle on the design side and are begining to share this information for those who are interested. Hey Roger (yes that's what I'll call you!) perhaps one really fun MindSay Pages section should be a design page - where people can learn more about the design aspects with examples, tips, samples and best of all - interactive play - which we all know is the best way to learn anything!
Note: these aren't necessarily to scale as my screen resolution may be set differently than others, perhaps the best description of the relativity of the spaces on the page need to be outlined in pixels and yet some dimensional understanding of that is helpful! (this note was added in an edit, after thinking about it a bit more!)
This is how the Mindsay Page Background measures up;

The entry background - this one you have to be careful with to ensure people can still read your blog - (I've found out some people don't seem too concerned about that for some weird reason!)
The blog background, it works like a "matt" you'd put around a nice picture before framing it.
I did two shots of the plug in background because it's longer and I wanted to see how far down the image would go before it started to tile... So one is the top section
And this other the bottom section
CallmeRoger , scout057x these are for you and for anyone here at MindSay who might benefit from this little trial and error exercise! If we can put a "design" page up I'll be more than happy to come play and, if suitable, you're welcomed to use these images there if it helps explain things any better for people.
Example; I would love to see a listing of the tips and insider info that helps make the design process easier; like a hint I found at one spot about saving Photoshop images (...save for web...) which has been helpful both here, on my website and on my hard drive! t hee!
Who knows where all the creative geniuses here at MindSay might take this place in 2006!!!!!!
I truly look forward to the adventure!
