Our winter wonderland is quickly melting away in a gush of warmer weather that's been flowing through the area. This is the weather pattern that is normal for our area. We'll have several repeats of the same until winter finally settles in; covering the garden with her chrystalized, white duvet!
And... If you can believe it, I had the sparrows and the goldfinches in my camera sights this morning - darn! The neighbors' cat scared the birds and then Keisha, our terrier gave the cat a good fright and it'll be a while before anybody'll feel safe enough to come back! ...Patience, the seeds still bekon them back!

December is a busy month for me, as it is for many people. If you look around and take some ques from Nature - it's busy all around! As November comes to a close I'm thankful I made it through what can be a "blue" time for me; onsets of SAD can kick in before the sun finally comes back in January!
December is a month of transition, as the solstice approaches and triggers changes in seasons around the globe. Winter in the northern hemisphere begins to settle in, bringing a rest for the fields and gardens and with it the promise of a spring to come as the lengthening of the days begins. While in the southern hemisphere the long lazy days of summer begin; plant life bursts into flower and begins it's pregnant pause, triggered by the shortening of the days - the promise of a harvest, a bounty yet to come.
And built within those transitions are gifts of delicious anticipation, in any place on earth we can be thankful and confident that the miracles of life will continue to unfold before us. Even if we are not in the habit to believe in miracles! Think of it - here in the northern hemisphere there are animals preparing to hibernate or hunkering down for the cold season and within them are their developing offspring - domesticated and wild alike, many animals are preparing themselves to give birth in early spring - February - March... A time of promise..., while the southern hemisphere prepares to harvest their fruits. Promises, more promises - it's such a promising life we all lead!
We can observe things with this sense of anticipation and be uplifted by the symbology.
We are not separated by these rhythms yet we seem to try to live our lives as if there is no connection between our personal realities and our natural world. If human lives were to parallell those of our animal companions here on earth we would be more likely to understand these patterns and rhythms of life itself and be more connected with them. Perhaps we could even learn to honour these natural rhythms and learn to pattern our lives to reflect the natural world more closely. Surley the human condition would improve vastly.
Instead we often try to ignore or fight against the rhythms of life and nature herself.
This year we have already learned well that Nature, ultimately, rules our decisions and plans.
Perhaps we could take a que from nature and allow ourselves some patience during this transition time remembering the promises of miraculous abundance fast approaching!
So take heart and don't let the change in season get you down - there is a promise ahead for you!
