4) Internet issues - pop ups solved but what about pop unders?
the annoyances of pop-up ads seem to be solved these days but what about those darn pop-unders? Worse, most pop-unders seem to be advertisements for anti-spyware, virus or on-line protection products...
I sent a scathing message to one offending company today that keeps claiming they'll scan my system for free then after the scan they say "you have 6000 critical errors etc., etc", and it's simply to get me to pay $40.00 for their software. Thing is I'm not supposed to use other security programs - my browser already has them built in...
It's a very annoying situation and forces me to have to scan daily just to clear them out of my history! I've threatened this company with reporting both to Internet Explorer (the offending browser) and Rogers Yahoo - my normal browser.
I use Microsoft's IE browser only for accessing a few sites; MindSay for special editing needs, BlogExplosion because of their java scripts and Sky & Telescope to be able to view their interactive star chart. (also a java issue) If I didn't have to use IE I wouldn't even have this problem with pop-unders and that's the most frustrating thing of all.
I'm trying to figure out why Sun - makers of java - would give IE such exclusivity that they don't seem to share their program updates with all browser developers... At least that's the assumption I'm making because it appears as though something is going on between all these companies in regard to competition....
Too bad - more people might be interested in being on-line more regularly if they weren't worried about issues like this. It's even frightening to people who might be less aware. To me it seems almost cruel - hackers and aggressive advertisers (legal hackers in a way - with their darn pop-unders!) may destroy something that is so promising. The internet is the place for people to mix and mingle and share... practices some of these companies use will eventually send people looking for a better alternative while others might set up lynch mobs to go after the offenders.
Seeing there isn't yet a better alternative - let's lynch these companies!
Note: I'm still waiting for their (the software companies' ) reply - I'll let you know if I get an intersting response.
If they respond and apologize - that might be a promising sign!
